ABS plastic is an engineering plastic known for impact resistance and ease of molding. In pool equipment (inlet nozzles, grilles, skimmer mouths), it's used as a corrosion-free, economical alternative to stainless steel that needs no plating.
UV-stabilized, quality-grade ABS can withstand years of sun exposure at poolside without discoloring or losing strength; cheap, unstabilized ABS, however, can yellow and become brittle over time.
Compared to stainless steel it carries a higher impact/crack risk and doesn't give the same premium look as chrome-plated stainless — so it's typically chosen for budget-focused projects or applications where stainless isn't strictly required.
