BSPP (British Standard Pipe Parallel), also defined in DIN 259, is a pipe connection standard with cylindrical (parallel) threads. Unlike the tapered NPT thread, sealing comes from a gasket (an o-ring or flat seal) rather than from the thread itself.
BSPP/DIN 259 is favored in pool equipment (nozzles, valves, pump connections) because of its compatibility with PVC plumbing systems and lower risk of thread damage during install/removal.
When specifying a product, confirm the thread standard matches the existing plumbing — especially in mixed systems combining imported parts of different origin, where it's easy to confuse with NPT. A mismatched standard means the sealing gasket won't seat correctly, causing leaks.
