In contemporary luxury hospitality and residential developments, standard swimming pools are increasingly complemented by dedicated 'Vitality Pools' and 'Hydrotherapy Spas.' Combining the buoyancy of warm water with the therapeutic effervescence of micro air bubbles, stainless steel air bed loungers and air floor systems deliver unparalleled relaxation when engineered with precision.
How do air loungers and air floor systems work?
A stainless steel air bed lounger consists of an ergonomically contoured AISI 316 tubular chassis submerged 40 – 50 cm below the water surface. At the heart of the system is a high-volume side-channel air blower situated in the plant room. Pressurized air produced by the blower is forced through precision micro-perforations or nozzles across the lounger surface.
Millions of micro-bubbles rise around the bather creating a champagne-effervescence effect. These bubbles provide a gentle tactile massage, release muscular tension, stimulate peripheral blood circulation, and create a sensation of total weightlessness in warm water.
Calculating blower power (kW) and air flow rate (m³/h)
The most common engineering oversight in air lounger design is neglecting hydrostatic water pressure. Every 10 cm of water depth exerts roughly 10 mbar of backpressure. Submerging an air bed at 50 cm depth requires an operating pressure of at least 120 – 160 mbar once pipe friction losses are factored in.
For a single-person stainless air lounger, a flow rate of 40 – 60 m³/h at 0.75 kW – 1.1 kW blower power is optimal. Double loungers or floor air grids demand 80 – 120 m³/h (1.5 kW – 2.2 kW blower). To safeguard the blower motor against water ingress, the air line must loop at least 50 cm above the pool waterline with an integrated spring check valve.
AISI 316 stainless steel and ergonomic frame standards
In spa and thermal vitality pools, water temperatures consistently range between 32°C and 38°C. Elevated temperatures combined with mineral salts dramatically accelerate chemical reaction rates. As a result, AISI 316 (or AISI 316Ti) marine-grade stainless steel is strictly required for air loungers, floor grids, and massage fittings.
SNY Pool's stainless steel air beds undergo electrolytic polishing to achieve a mirror-like, silky-smooth finish. This treatment eliminates micro-burrs for superior skin comfort while drastically reducing limescale and biofilm adhesion for the highest hygiene standards.
Plumbing checklist for massage nozzles and air beds
For long-term reliability in commercial spas: fit the blower intake with an acoustic silencer and air filter, govern poolside piezo buttons with 15-minute countdown timers to avoid motor overheating, and run a 2-minute auto-purge cycle after pool closing to keep air channels dry and scale-free.
